Lucknow: Under the leadership of renowned educationists and Founders of City Montessori School, Dr Jagdish Gandhi and Dr. (Mrs) Bharti Gandhi, Principals of all 18 CMS campuses, teachers and approximately 56,000 students urged people to observe ‘Valentine’s Day’ as ‘Family Unity Day’. CMS Principals have made an appeal to all the teachers, parents, youth and people to observe the martyr day of St. Valentine i.e. 14 February, as the Family Unity Day, consolidating the familial unity to pay tribute to St. Valentine because St. Valentine sacrificed his life for the family and social unity in 269 AD. In an informal talk in this context, CMS Founder and renowned educationist, Dr Jagdish Gandhi stated that the concept of ‘Valentine Day’ has come from foreign countries and it has created much confusion and social downfall, since its true meaning has been forgotten and this day has taken a distorted form, thereby misguiding the younger generation. St. Valentine had sacrificed himself for family solidarity and the sacred institution of marriage but some selfish people and corporations have fabricated this martyr’s day of St. Valentine ’14 February’ as a day of cheap entertainment for their vested interests. He emphasized that the deformed way of celebrating ‘Valentine Day’ is sure to bring about untold mental pressure and sufferings that result from the stigma attached with the Day. Therefore, it is high time to make the youth aware of the true meaning of St. Valentine’s philosophy and save them from the ill effects of ‘Valentine Day’. This is a day of mourning for St. Valentine who died fighting for the noble cause of Marriage Solidarity and Human Values. We must consider it as a Martyr Day and pay tribute to St. Valentine by following his path of righteous behaviour and noble life. Mr Hari Om Sharma, Chief Public Relations Officer of CMS informed that for the past several years, CMS has been observing Valentine’s Day as ‘Family Unity Day’ and motivating the whole society for the same. He expressed contentment saying that parents have fully supported our sacred mission and expressed their gratitude towards the institution. He further said that for the past 60 years, CMS has been imparting the teachings of family unity, based on ‘Vasudhaiv Kutumbkam’, the great ideal of Indian philosophy.
